Safend Announces the Safend Data Protection Suite to Protect Data Stored on Laptops, PCs and Portable Media

Leading Data Protection Vendor Announces FIPS – 140 Certification and Enhancements to Safend Encryptor, Safend Protector and Upcoming Content Inspection Solution

April 20, 2009 – Philadelphia, Tel Aviv, and Luxemburg – Safend, a leading provider of endpoint data protection solutions, today announced a new release of Safend Encryptor, a hard-disk encryption solution that is a component of the Safend Data Protection Suite. By fully integrating Safend Encryptor with Safend Protector, which encrypts data stored on removable media and CD/DVD, and Safend Reporter, Safend provides an end-to-end solution for guarding confidential corporate data from loss or theft, with a single agent, single management server and single management console.

Safend Encryptor is a flexible solution that combines strong management and enforcement policies with stringent security levels. The solution is completely transparent to end-users; it does not require them to activate the encryption/decryption process themselves, and all processes run in the background without interfering with users’ ongoing work. Unique to Safend, Safend Encryptor provides “True Single Sign On” functionality which uses an existing Windows login interface for user authentication.

“The large-scale proliferation of storage devices, PCs and laptops by employees has made organizations much more vulnerable to security and data breaches,” said Gil Sever, CEO, Safend. “All around the world, incidents involving the loss or theft of data are reported on a daily basis and many more likely go unreported. Using Safend Encryptor ensures that data stored on PCs and laptops is safe even if files are lost or stolen. By combining the power of Safend Encryptor with the proven security of Safend Protector, our customers can rest assured that they have a complete endpoint data protection solution to ensure sensitive data is never compromised.”

Through the combined features of the Safend Data Protection Suite, an organization can encrypt data residing on removable storage devices, CD/DVDs, external hard drives and internal hard drives using AES encryption with a 256-bit key size.

Additional features and benefits of the Safend Encryptor solution include:
• In addition to being transparent to the end-user, Safend Encryptor is also transparent to the Help Desk by using the generic Active Directory domain password reset.

• Performance is maintained by avoiding the encryption and decryption of system or program files that do not require protection.

• Automatic key management centrally generates and securely stores all encryption keys before encryption is initialized.

• Provides full visibility and an audit trail of security incidents, encryption status and administration actions.

• Highly scalable where a single management server can manage more than 50,000 agents.

The company also announced that it will offer a content inspection product later this year to round out the Safend Data Protection Suite and provide seamless, end-to-end data protection for the enterprise. Safend is enrolling beta customers for Safend Inspector, which will provide content inspection, filtering and data fingerprinting for email, instant messenger, external storage and printers. Safend Inspector is scheduled to be available in Q4 of this year.

The Safend Data Protection Suite, including Safend Protector and Safend Encryptor, obtained final certification for FIPS 140-2 (Federal Information Processing Standards) Validation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. and by the Communications Security Establishment in Canada (CSEC). FIPS 140-2 validation is required by most Government departments, including the Department of Defense, to protect the integrity of files on their networks and is also valued by companies in the healthcare, financial services and manufacturing markets.

Endpoint Data Protection Leader Bolsters Certifications and Credentials for Purchase by Government and Enterprise Customers

January 27, 2009 – Philadelphia – Safend, a leading provider of endpoint data protection solutions, today announced that the Safend Solution has received c (CC) certification at Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL 2) after evaluation by the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). The company also announced that the Safend Solution has advanced to the Coordination stage for FIPS 140-2 (Federal Processing Standards Publication) Validation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. and by the Communications Security Establishment in Canada (CSEC).

“In today’s crowded marketplace, governments and private sector companies alike are forced to choose amongst an array of solutions for securing and encrypting their sensitive data,” said Gil Sever, CEO of Safend. “Certifications such as FIPS and Common Criteria provide prospective buyers with the extra level of validation necessary to know they are getting a data protection solution that has been extensively tested and proven. We are proud that the Safend Solution continues to move along seamlessly through the FIPS evaluation process and we remain committed to continuing to work with additional standards bodies to further establish Safend as the most reliable and trusted endpoint data protection provider in the industry.”

FIPS 140-2 specifies the security requirements for cryptographic modules used to protect sensitive information. FIPS 140-2 validation is required by most Government departments, including the Department of Defense, to protect the integrity of files that cross their networks and is also valued by companies in the healthcare, financial and manufacturing markets. By achieving Coordination status, Safend has moved to the fourth step of a five-step process for final FIPS certification. The Safend Solution is expected to achieve full FIPS certification by Q2 2009.

“At e-Convergence Solutions, we work with a large government customer base where third-party validation is a necessity; when we select solution providers to partner with, it is essential for us to know that their technologies are backed up by more than just marketing claims,” said Joseph Heinzen, president at e-Convergence Solutions, a national technology distributor that works with VARs and systems integrators. “Safend’s commitment to achieving FIPS and Common Criteria certifications is further proof that the company’s data protection solutions are the most comprehensive and secure in the industry, making it easy to recommend Safend to our clients.”

Common Criteria is an internationally approved set of security standards that ensures a clear and reliable evaluation of the security capabilities of information technology products. By providing an independent assessment of a product’s ability to meet established security standards, Common Criteria offers a level of confidence for security-conscious government customers. The Common Criteria certification at EAL 2 validates that the Safend Solution satisfies all of the functional requirements stated in the documentation submitted. SAIC, an independent laboratory, conducted the evaluation and monitored it on behalf of the Common Criteria Evaluation Validation Body (CCEVS).

“Common Criteria certification ensures organizations in the government and commercial industries that certified solutions have been stringently tested to meet strict guidelines and standards,” said Jon Crotty, security research analyst at IDC. “Data leakage prevention is an important part of any organizations’ IT infrastructure and is a top concern for management worldwide. Common Criteria certification promises organizations looking to deploy an endpoint security solution to protect company data, like Safend Protector, with the validation and confidence they need to make the best technology decision.”

New Partnership Adds Safend’s Award-Winning Endpoint Security Solutions to CREDANT’s Portfolio of Data Protection Technologies

November 19, 2008 – Dallas and Philadelphia – CREDANT Technologies, the market leader in data protection solutions, and Safend, a leading provider of enterprise endpoint Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) solutions, today announced a partnership that will provide CREDANT customers with an unprecedented level of protection for their sensitive data. The partnership adds Safend’s endpoint data leakage monitoring and protection technologies to CREDANT’s data protection portfolio. Powered by Safend technology, CREDANT’s new offering, CREDANT Protector, strengthens its existing security portfolio through the addition of comprehensive device and wireless port control solutions and extensive optical media (CD/DVD) encryption capabilities from Safend.

“In a climate where data can be downloaded to a USB stick or Smartphone in a matter of seconds, it has become imperative that enterprises protect their endpoints against these vulnerabilities,” said Chris Burchett, co-founder and Chief Technical Officer at CREDANT Technologies. “It is a natural partnership for CREDANT, one of the world’s leading data protection providers, to partner with a market leader such as Safend. The Safend Protector solution fits nicely into our portfolio, offering our customers the ability to secure their most sensitive information stored on CD-DVD drives and proactively manage port access.”

According to the 2008 Safend survey, forty-four percent of organizations surveyed have only moderate policies for endpoint and port security in place and nearly 25 percent have no policies set at all. This further demonstrates the need for a comprehensive and unified solution for device and port control and data protection.

“CREDANT’s decision to partner with Safend is further validation that our endpoint DLP solution is the leading port and device control product in the market today,” said Gil Sever, founder and CEO at Safend. “This partnership offers exciting new opportunities for Safend and CREDANT to reach new customers as well as those in CREDANT’s large client portfolio. We are confident that the power of the integrated Safend solution will further enable users to protect their sensitive data from loss, theft and malicious attacks.”

According to a recent eWeek article by Brian Prince: “If a laptop, CD or Smartphone is stolen, encryption can be the difference between a data breach and a close call. With so much sensitive corporate and personal information at stake, a clear encryption strategy is a vital part of data protection.” Today, more and more organizations are not only recognizing the need for encryption capabilities, but also the role that a comprehensive approach to data leakage prevention serves in keeping data safe on portable devices.

"Sensitive data is not simply confined to home PCs and laptops; in today's extended enterprise sensitive data travels on everything portable from Smartphones to USB sticks to iPods. In order to ensure data integrity, organizations need to look for a combined encryption and port and device control solution," said Eric Ogren, founder and principal analyst of the Ogren Group. "With this evolving market dynamic and clear customer need in mind, a comprehensive information protection program based on encryption and data leakage prevention will enable organizations to reduce the risk of data breaches and theft via portable storage devices."

Driven by Safend’s technology, CREDANT Protector delivers unprecedented encryption and device control functionality for organizations in any industry or market. Using this solution, organizations will have access to the industry's most comprehensive, secure and easy-to-use endpoint data protection and data leakage prevention technology. CREDANT Protector also offers the ability to monitor traffic in real time and apply customized, highly-granular security policies over all physical, wireless and storage interfaces. CREDANT Protector works in conjunction with CREDANT Mobile Guardian (CMG), the only security system that can encrypt and secure data on mobile devices across multiple, diverse platforms from a single, web-based console.

How to Stop the Grinch from Stealing Your Corporate Data

How to Stop the Grinch from Stealing Your Corporate Data Link: http://bit.ly/hZ2TA Article:

Safend Announces Top-Five Tips for Keeping Data Safe during the Holidays

Philadelphia – Month X, 2008 – The holidays can be a great time for employees – whether it’s a slower work pace, increased vacation time, the office gift exchange, or the gift giving (and receiving) season altogether. However, the holidays can also be a nightmare for employers as they worry about sensitive data being taken out of the office via new devices such as MP3 players, digital cameras and other gadgets being introduced into the workplace. In fact, industry analysts estimate that more that 100 million removable or portable media devices will be in use by the end of 2008. This holiday season, employers need to be cognizant of how to stop the “Grinch” from stealing sensitive corporate data.

Organizations are feeling the effects of data leakage every day: the average cost of a data breach for a publicly traded company is $6.3 million and the stock price drops five percent and it takes a full year to recover. Companies spend millions of dollars each year to protect their information from outside threats, but it is becoming more evident that they need to secure data from within by developing an effective Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) strategy.

Safend, a leading provider of enterprise endpoint DLP solutions, has devised the top-five tips for keeping your data safe during the holidays and beyond. These tips include:

• Employ a Sound Auditing Process: Portable storage devices such as iPods, PDAs, smart phones and other mobile devices, have become pervasive in the workplace. Allowing your employees use their iPods at work may be a good way to increase morale but it also poses a security threat. Knowing what devices are connecting to what endpoints will help administrators monitor and avoid these threats. Determining what kind—and how many—devices are accessing an organization’s network is the first step in developing an effective DLP strategy.

• Written Data Security Policies: The major concern with portable devices is the fear that the device may be lost or stolen, putting the data it contains at serious risk. In order to truly ensure the security of confidential data stored on portable devices, effective DLP strategies and policies need to be deployed, including written usage policies.
• Access Control: To make sure that users cannot easily circumvent security policies, it is important to first make sure the policies in place are flexible enough that they don’t hinder productivity, but strong enough to prevent data leakage threats. This is accomplished through granular policies that allow administrators to block, allow or restrict access to data from everything from file type, device type and even specific device serial number.
• Encrypt Everything: Many enterprises feel that they have covered all their security bases with the implementation of security policies, employee training and endpoint protection technology and are reluctant to invest in another product or add another level of security. However, encryption is essential to ensure that unauthorized users cannot access data in the case of loss or theft.

• A Smart Consumer: While tips one through four specifically address the employer, it’s important to remember as a consumer and employee, that keeping data safe benefits the employee as well. Employees should know if they are properly using their devices in the office to avoid breaking corporate policies. Also when connecting to a corporate endpoint, portable devices are at risk of receiving viruses or other forms of malware from potentially infected endpoints, thus making it essential for employees to know what they are connecting to at the office.
